Black River Preserve
Black River Preserve, located in South Haven, Michigan, offers visitors a diverse range of habitats to explore, including deep ravines, beech-maple forests, streams, and rolling uplands. The park features hiking trails, bridges, and boardwalks constructed by the dedicated volunteer group, the Black River Stewards. Visitors can enjoy activities such as hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, bird watching, and more. The preserve has 120 acres of heavily rolling forest with wet meadows and upland fields. It provides nesting habitat for waterfowl and waterbirds, as well as breeding grounds for various bird species. A botanical census found 400 plant species, 85% of which are native to Southwest Michigan.

Welcome to Lake Breeze Nature Preserve, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Pentwater, Michigan. Located at the south end of Lake Breeze Drive, just east of Ridge Road, our preserve offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of untouched nature. With convenient parking available along Lake Breeze Drive, your adventure begins the moment you arrive. While there are no formal trails, intrepid explorers can wander freely through a diverse forest landscape, featuring birch, pine, hemlock, maple, and oak trees. Among the highlights are the majestic white pines and American beech trees—living monuments to the forest's rich history. Keep an eye out for the massive rotting stumps, remnants of the logging era nearly a century ago.
