Legacy/Sponberg Theatre
The Legacy/Sponberg Theatre, located at 1030 East Circle Drive in Ypsilanti, Michigan, is a dynamic institution known for its thought-provoking and innovative productions. The 2023-24 season features shows that run for one weekend only, so it's recommended to secure tickets early. This season explores themes of dreams, self-belief, reflection on the past, and hope for a brighter future, with characters who strive to express themselves freely. Under the direction of Phil Simmons and with music direction by R. MacKenzie Lewis, the theatre presents a diverse range of performances. One of the highlights is a production about 18-year-old Dontrell Jones embarking on a journey to find a lost ancestor from the Middle Passage, blending wordplay, humor, and ritual in a contemporary hero's quest. Another standout show is a radical adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac by Martin Crimp, where the titular character uses his linguistic prowess to help another man win the love of his life.
