Hoft Farm Preserve
β OpenHoft Farm Preserve is a beautiful park located at 74 Lamberts Cove Road in West Tisbury, Massachusetts, United States. This preserve is enjoyed by many for its trails and features a field station used by researchers and burn crews. The 90-acre property includes a mix of mostly hilly pitch pine and oak woodlands, open fields, a small pond, and a small shrub swamp. The topography of the preserve is hillier and more varied than most other preserves on Martha's Vineyard, making it a great place to explore and hike. The property provides a unique perspective on the history of the island's natural landscapes and the impact of humans on these landscapes. The farmhouse on the property has been renovated into the Hoft Farm Field Station, which overlooks Blackwater and Duarte's Ponds. The field station houses TNC staff, equipment, and interns from various conservation organizations on the Vineyard. The preserve is also involved in ecological restoration of sandplain grasslands, a globally rare community type. Visitors can access the preserve by car, bike, or taxi from the nearby ferry landings in Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. The trails on the property wind through open fields, pitch pine forests, and dry oak forests, offering the opportunity to see a variety of plant and animal species throughout the year.
