"A very nice place to go"
"Growing up in the '60's and '70's, Hideaway Village was our summer place. A unique neighborhood, it started as a campground or trailer park which slowly over the years transformed into a community of summer cottages. For a young boy, Hideaway was a magical place, with many other kids and lots to do i.e., fishing, boating, clamming, and when we got older, first kisses on the beach. When I was 4 or 5, my mom would arm me with a bucket and a large spoon and I would walk the beach at low tide in search of those yummy clams (steamers). After returning with my prize bounty (6 or 7 clams), my mom would happily steam them up for me. Later in life she admitted that it was a nice way of getting me out of her hair for a few hours! For the adults, Hideaway was a friendly game of canasta on your friend's patio, pot luck dinners and sing-a-longs with Ruthie on the keyboard! (Shine on harvest moon! ) I haven't been back to Hideaway since about 1980 but I hope that it still holds the same magic that provided me with memories of a lifetime."
