Washburn Island
Washburn Island, located in Falmouth, Massachusetts, is a beautiful park managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation as part of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. This island is one of the last large undeveloped coastal properties on Cape Cod and offers a variety of habitats including barrier beaches, oak and pine forests, and coastal salt ponds. The campground on Washburn Island is currently closed for the season, but day visitors and campers can access the island by private boat. The island has ten campsites with composting toilets, as well as trails for nature viewing and exploration. Reservations for camping on Washburn Island must be made in advance, and there are specific regulations in place to protect the environment and wildlife. Visitors are advised to bring their own fresh water, carry out all trash, and be aware of ticks and poison ivy on the island.
