Established under the 1970 Act of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Chapter 21, Section 29, the HWQD was formed to build, maintain, and operate a comprehensive sewage collection, treatment, and disposal system. Our state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility (WWTF) is the only centralized treatment plant serving North Adams, Williamstown, and parts of Clarksburg. Originally constructed in the mid-1960s, the facility was significantly upgraded in the mid-1970s and again in 2008 to meet modern secondary treatment standards, boasting a current design flow of 6.5 million gallons per day (MGD) and a peak capacity of 18 MGD.
