Explore a variety of natural communities, including vernal pools and an abandoned farm settlement. Don’t miss the nearly mile-long Miller Lane, a scenic cart path lined with 150-year-old stone walls.
Gateway to Biodiversity
The Southeastern Massachusetts Bioreserve, one of the largest protected lands in the state, is just beyond Copicut Woods. Established in 2002, this 13,600-acre reserve is home to diverse ecosystems, from white pine-oak forests to rare Atlantic white cedar swamps. It supports nearly 100 bird species and the endangered four-toed salamander while protecting drinking water for over 100,000 people.
Outdoor Activities
Copicut Woods features 5.4 miles of trails, including segments on adjoining conservation land. Enjoy hiking and mountain biking across more than 50 miles of trails in the Bioreserve. For a family-friendly adventure, try The Trustees Quest, a self-guided exploration with fun clues for school-aged kids and the young at heart.
Plan Your Visit
Parking is available for 12 cars, with additional roadside parking. We recommend taking a photo of the trail map posted on the kiosk or downloading a map before your visit. From a secluded picnic in a timber frame shed to exploring the Meadhowhawk and Soggy Bottom Trails, Copicut Woods promises a memorable experience.

"Walked soggy bottom, trail had been worked on, lots of new board walks to keep dry. However, we did the cedar swamp loop, and while the walk out to the swamp is fine, the swamp loop itself is in great disrepair, the board walk is in spots very difficult to traverse. Rotted, slippery with moss, or extremely overgrown with prickly vines. So only for the dedicated. The athletic cedars on the trail are all tagged, so you can identify them. They are trying to re introduce them and are looking for volunteers!"
