Located at 667 Simonds Road in Williamstown, our facility proudly serves an estimated population of 25,500, including residents of Clarksburg through an intermunicipal agreement. Established under the 1970 Act of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Chapter 21, Section 29, the HWQD was formed to build, maintain, and operate a comprehensive sewage collection, treatment, and disposal system. Our state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility (WWTF) is the only centralized treatment plant serving North Adams, Williamstown, and parts of Clarksburg. Originally constructed in the mid-1960s, the facility was significantly upgraded in the mid-1970s and again in 2008 to meet modern secondary treatment standards, boasting a current design flow of 6.5 million gallons per day (MGD) and a peak capacity of 18 MGD.
