"I have to wonder about the 5 star reviews. I think the Whitlock Inn is worthy of no more than a 2 star review. We were given a handicap room. The carpet was dirty and stained. We were not given instructions as to arriving at 10:30 pm that the interior door would be locked. We called the telephone number that we were given. There was no answer. Nor was there any follow up. We eventually realized that we could enter via another door. If all of that was not enough, the mattress needs to be turned. It sloped to one side on each of the two beds. The continental breakfast was nothing more than a sugar fest. We could hear the footsteps above us. Very unpleasant experience. We will not return."

"I would have to say I was a little skeptical after reading the 2 star review on The Dewey, but found myself amazed at what a charming inn this turned out to be. We had stayed before the new owners took over and it was old and tired back then but now it's quite nice. We enjoyed our walk to breakfast; not inconvenient at all. The employees were very pleasant and helpful with recommendations on restaurants and such. We also stayed at the Whitlock last year which was a stunner and the food amazing at the restaurant there."

"Shabby, dated, dingy and disappointing are a few words to describe our room in the Dewey Carriage House, and it was somewhat shocking for $530 a night. I called the desk to see if they made a mistake in the room assignment, but no. There were cobwebs, dust, and stains on the ceiling and lamp shades. The bathroom was strangely configured, and the (chipped) sink area extremely small. The bed, pillows and sheets were clean and comfortable or we would not have stayed. We were awakened at 7am by the kids next door running and screaming their heads off. If you want the continental breakfast, you have to go a mile down the road to The Constance. We didn't bother. Caveat emptor when booking this property."
