"Absolutely wonderful from start to finish. I have been staying regularly at the Ellery (formerly Carpe Diem) at least once or twice a year as I have family in the area. This trip was for my marriage.I was initially concerned when I saw the mixed reviews following a change in ownership. Amy (manager) was so nice and helpful and did everything possible to make it a great experience (we were married on the property). Some of my family arrived later in the evening (we had 5 rooms in total), so she made sure they could retrieve their keys and everything was in order. I will definitely stay here for my next visit."
"Great place to stay. Clean classy and well appointed rooms. Arrive on time for included wine, cheese and cold cuts. The room I stayed was spacious and comfortable. Bed and linens were soft. Recommend"
"For years we stayed at this location when it was Carpe Diem. They had the most wonderful front desk staff that were so helpful and remembered you year to year. We still stay in touch with one of them! This summer we decided to return and we were excited to see the new renovations. The price increased significantly, we paid almost $1,000 more for our week in June than we did last summer. The only improvement we could see was a coat of paint on the walls. There was no management whatsoever, we had to call the after hours line a few times and the woman we spoke to was so exceptionally rude. We had housekeeping one time in our seven night stay and had to hunt down a human being to get fresh towels and our trash can emptied. This used to be our spot every summer, it is so sad to see what it has become. We will never be returning."
"I stayed at this hotel at the end of August 2023 for 4 nights. My nightly rate for the least expensive room, the "queen standard," including all taxes and purported amenities, was $491 a night. The location is very good, just a block away from Commercial Street, which is the main street. The room was tiny without even space for a chair, of which there was not one. The only place to sit was the bed. The bathroom was a nice size. However, the light above the bathroom sink had no bulbs in the light fixture. Also, next to the bathroom sink was the usual electrical outlet. However, this electrical outlet had no cover plate. When I complained to management, they simply taped a piece of paper over the entire exposed electrical outlet! The second floor where my room was had a total of 5 rooms. The rooms did not have individual thermostats. To control the temperature, the temperature control was a single thermostat on the wall in the hallway. This meant that you are at the mercy of other guests, changing the temperature which affected your room. However, most egregious to me was the fact that there was no daily maid service. When I called to ask about that I was told that the hotel belonged to some ecology alliance. Yet there is no mention of this on their website, in the bathroom or in any of the literature they left in the room. I was told that if I wanted made service sooner than 3 days, I could leave my soiled towels and trash in the hallway and it would be taking care of. Who wants to be staying in a hotel that leaves trash and soil towels in the hallways - and at $491 a night?"
"I have been to Ptown many times over the past 35 years, and this was the worst guest house that I ever experienced. There is no manager on site, no front desk assistance, nobody to check you in or deal with a problem or emergency. Everything is done by text with some unknown person. I went for coffee one morning around 6:15, and the front door was wide open, possibly left that way all night. There is no security. The rooms are small and service is provided only every third day. In my room, there were stains on the weird fake zebra-skin rug , peeling paint on the deck handrails, and a “clean” towel that clearly had a blood stain (yuk). The towel bar in the bathroom was falling off the wall. I had to ask one of the housekeepers to refill the shower gel since it was empty when I arrived. Hardly what I was expecting for 700/night. The other big negative is that they have discontinued serving breakfast, and only provided two discount coupons for a coffee shop that is at least a 1 mile walk from the hotel. Seriously? That is part of the fun of staying at a guest house - meeting the other guests at breakfast. I won’t stay here again, and would not recommend this place."
