Samuel Slater Experience
β ClosedThe Samuel Slater Experience, located at 31 Ray Street in Webster, Massachusetts, is a unique museum and store that brings to life the rich industrial history of the area. The museum tells the story of Samuel Slater, who at the age of 14 became involved in the textile industry and eventually started his own cotton spinning business in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. In 1812, he moved his mills to Webster, Massachusetts, with the help of his friend Senator Daniel Webster, shaping the town into an industrial powerhouse. By utilizing the water power of Webster Lake and the French River, Slater created a town focused on cotton and woolen manufacturing, attracting other businesses to the area. The museum showcases the contributions of Slater and his family to the growth of Webster, including the establishment of the first Sunday School in the area for mill workers' children.
