This international research study, funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, aims to compare the effectiveness of endovascular therapy and surgical therapy in treating CLI. Enrollment for the study ended in 2019, with results set to be presented at the American Heart Association in November 2022. Patients with PAD, particularly those who smoke or have diabetes, are at risk for developing CLI, which can lead to severe complications such as gangrene and limb loss. Participants in the BEST-CLI study were randomly assigned to receive either endovascular therapy or surgical therapy, with follow-up exams scheduled at regular intervals. The study involved over 150 medical centers and targeted enrollment of 2,100 participants across multiple countries. Participation in the study helped gather valuable information to guide treatment decisions for future CLI patients.
