"While Sam was in Architecture school, he wasn't willing to settle for only what college was teaching. For example, to supplement his college education, he spent a summer building self-sufficient off-the-grid homes out of recycled materials. But, he didn't just learn from the experienced builders he worked with, he spent that summer fully immersed in the concept - he even spent that summer living in a stripped-down simple earth dome hut, with a single solar panel for only the essentials, a rammed earth floor, and a solar heated shower. Through Sam's never ending thirst for knowledge and inspiration, he has developed the kind of strong design philosophy and ability to follow through, that most Architects don't arrive at until late in their careers. "I cannot thank Samuel and Studio North enough walking me through what was almost a disaster project. I thought I was doing a straightforward reno on a one-story balloon frame timber house, but way over my head. Issue after issue popped up, and these were very site-specific problems on building 100+ years old. At first I wasn't sure to hire Sam on as Studio North is a bit green but he was recommended by a trusted mentor. With a halted project going on 1.5 years, I needed the assistance. Well, you can see the pictures for yourself I'm grateful Sam took the project on. His technical expertise and attention to detail were evident throughout the entire process. Despite the the mess faced, Samuel was committed to untangling a bunch of stopgaps and finding permanent solutions. The photos are still a little unfinished, but I'm glad the project is nearly completion after a year and half headache. If you're looking for an architect near you for modern design, or renovations, I recommend Studio North."
