Williams College Library Shelving Facility
● ClosedThe Williams College Library Shelving Facility, located at 835 Simonds Road in Williamstown, Massachusetts, is a high-density storage building designed to accommodate the school's short and long term library storage needs. Construction of the facility began in July 2007 and was completed in May 2008. The facility houses approximately 900,000 volumes in a 10,000 square foot environmentally controlled space, with materials organized by size on shelving up to 30-feet high and retrieved through an automated system. The Library Shelving Facility serves as the temporary home to the Archives and Chapin Library collections from 2008-2011, with plans for most materials to return to campus upon completion of the new library. The facility also houses back issues of Sawyer library journals, with articles available for electronic delivery and bound volumes accessible for paging.
