Monocacy National Battlefield | Thomas Farm Loop Trail
Monocacy National Battlefield | Thomas Farm Loop Trail is a historic institution located in Frederick, Maryland, United States. Visitors can explore the walking trails and tour the historic farms where the Battle of Monocacy took place in 1864. The Junction Trail, starting at the park visitor center, covers the area where Confederate forces deployed to attack the bridge at the river below. The Gambrill Mill area includes an accessible boardwalk with a view of the Monocacy River where Union forces defended against the Confederate attack. The Worthington Farm area is where Confederate forces crossed the river to flank the Union forces, and the Thomas Farm was fiercely contested during the battle. Each farm has its own unique story, with Best Farm once being home to over 100 enslaved people and one of the largest plantations in Maryland. Visitors can also discover Maryland's native plants and animals while enjoying scenic landscape views. Leashed dogs are welcome, but metal detecting and relic hunting are strictly prohibited. The trail is 0.5 miles long, partially wheelchair-accessible via a boardwalk. The Worthington Ford Trail and High Water Bypass Trail are also available for exploration.
