Chesapeake Wooden Boat Builders School
Chesapeake Wooden Boat Builders School, located on West Walnut Street in North East, Maryland, is a unique institution dedicated to preserving the lifestyle of the waterman and hunter of the Upper Chesapeake Bay. Established in 1989 in partnership with Harford Community College, the school aims to teach wooden boat building skills using easily accessible materials to uphold the maritime heritage of the region. The school's evolution has been marked by the completion of over 155 boats and canoes since its inception. Classes meet year-round on Tuesday nights, demonstrating the instructors' dedication to passing on their knowledge. Adult students can choose from five different areas of focus, including the Model Shop for building scale model boats and the Community Education Program, which showcases the school's wooden boats at various events throughout the Chesapeake Bay area.
