Acorn Urban Park
Acorn Urban Park is a charming and historic destination located in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. Visitors can explore the iconic Acorn Gazebo, spring grotto, and peaceful shade trees in this small park. The gazebo, dating back to the 19th century, was originally part of Francis Preston Blair's plantation, Silver Spring. Blair, a newspaper publisher and friend of President Andrew Jackson, discovered the mica-flecked spring on the property and was so enchanted by it that he purchased the land and established a plantation. In 1942, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission acquired the park to protect the spring from development.
