Colonial Music Institute
The Colonial Music Institute, located at 276 Oak Court in Severna Park, Maryland, is a school dedicated to researching and promoting early American music and dance. Founded in 1999 by David Hildebrand, Ginger Hildebrand, Kate Van Winkle Keller, and Robert M. Keller, the institute conducts primary research and interdisciplinary scholarship to educate the public about the music of the colonial era. The institute's resources, publications, and educational materials were donated to the Washington Library at Mount Vernon in 2020. Visitors can enjoy immersive programs, museum galleries, and audio recordings of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century music at the institute. The Mount Vernon Estate, maintained by the Mount Vernon Ladies Association, has been preserved since 1858 and offers a glimpse into the life of George Washington.
