Dr. Erik Hoyer is an assistant professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, specializing in inpatient rehabilitation, musculoskeletal and neurological rehabilitation, injection procedures for spasticity management, and electrodiagnostic medicine (EMG). As the vice chair for quality, safety, and service at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Hoyer leads efforts to improve patient safety and care, including the activity and mobility promotion (AMP) initiative. His research interests include quality improvement, implementation science, and health services research focused on improving outcomes for hospitalized patients, particularly in motor recovery after stroke. Dr. Hoyer's recent research has shown that patients with low scores on functional activity tests are more likely to require readmission to the hospital within 30 days. The institution strongly recommends masks but does not require them in Maryland and offers services such as back pain management, EMG, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, neurologic rehabilitation, pain management, and physical medicine and rehabilitation.
