The history of the land where Centennial Park is located dates back to the time when Susquehannock and Piscataway tribes hunted and had seasonal camps in the area. The first European settlers in the region were Puritans, Quakers, and Catholics seeking religious freedom. The land was later owned by the Talbots, Dorsey, Howard, and Weems families, with three generations of the Weems family farming the land from before 1800 until 1844.
