Collaborative teacher workshops in Silver Spring, Maryland

Sitar Niketan music school, located at 1403 Mimosa Lane, Silver Spring, Maryland, United States, was established in 2015 by Alif Laila, a renowned sitarist with 25 years of experience in teaching and composing for sitar students. The institution aims to preserve and propagate the rich musical heritage of South Asia through Indian classical music, offering individual and group training to develop proper sitar playing skills and connect with traditional raags and taals. Following the Senia Maihar Gharana, Sitar Niketan provides a space where students can broaden their musical horizons through collaborations with other disciplines in performance. Despite the challenges of COVID-19, the institution has continued to teach, create, and present online student programs with newfound creativity, showcasing the unifying energy among students of all ages and backgrounds. The Sitar Niketan Ensemble recently performed at the DC South Asian Music Festival, demonstrating their dedication to sharing the peaceful resonance of Indian classical music with the world.
