Fretterd Community Center
Fretterd Community Center, located at 107 South 4th Street in Denton, Maryland, is a historic institution that was formerly the National Guard Armory and is now the staff headquarters for the Recreation and Parks Department. This community center serves as a programming site for county-sponsored services and is available for private parties, public events, and extended programming for the community. The center's grounds feature a Memorial Monument dedicated to Caroline County Veterans and their families, as well as plaques inside the building that honor the members of the 29th Division of the 104 Regiment who deployed from this Armory for the Invasion of Normandy in WWII. Another plaque pays tribute to those from Caroline County who made the ultimate sacrifice in WWII, while a third plaque recognizes the building's namesake: LTG (MD) (ret) James F. Fretterd, the 28th Adjutant General of the Maryland National Guard.
