Sands by the Sea Motel

"The area is great, right by the ocean can walk to the beach that's right across from the motel. I would try to get there as soon as you can as if you have a late check-in there is a way to get the keys with instructions but it made it a little uncomfortable as I thought what if someone decided I wanted a room for the night and took the keys otherwise I was happy with it"

"The only good thing is location!!!, the beds are either old or purchased from hotels that went out of business, we were switched to another room as the beds were sunken and the sink did not drain, the beds in room 14 looked better but were also so bad I could not sleep, my husband kept rolling into the middle of the bed, my back was aching, there was a musty smell and the carpet actually felt damp under my feet, mold in shower. sink so low you need to be on your knees to brush your teeth or wash your face By far the worst motel I have ever been to. Never noticed it was a two star motel when I booked our stay, extremely disappointing"

"GREAT getaway! The location cannot be beat. Interactions with staff were friendly, positive, upbeat. The only downside was my shower didn't have soap in the distributor thing nor was there any bar soap offered as alternative. I had to prop up the drain with the cover of my razor bc the tub wouldn't drain otherwise. Also, I found a pair of shorts on the floor of the closet, looked like they'd been there for a while. Overall, it is a good, gets-the-job-done place. Staff, as I mentioned, were energetic, helpful. I will return, for sure."

"I’m really picky on my motel/hotel stays. A Hilton “Diamond Member” and more. I travel for work, but this time was leisure. I love this little motel. The woman at the front desk bent over backwards for me. I walked in with no reservation and she promptly gave me a room with a stellar view and a comfortable bed. I added an extra night I enjoyed the first so much. The location is perfect. A cute deli convenient store is adjacent to the motel with stellar breakfast sandwiches. The beach is right across the street. Is it outdated? Yes, but it’s clean and very affordable ($99 a night, can’t beat it!)"

"In need of major upgrade and attention to maintenance. Each year, my immediate and extended family and I rent between 6-10 rooms on the same weekend for the past 15 plus years. We don't choose Sands for the rooms themselves - they've always been in need of an upgrade. We stay for the centralized meeting place at the pool and the short walk to everything Short Sands has to offer. Unfortunately, we're at a point, where we can't stomach it anymore. Around 3 years ago, they changed the requirement from a 2 night minimum to a 3 night minimum. YET, there has been no effort on their part to even keep up with the place. -The carpet needs to be removed from the rooms as they are DISGUSTING and no one should walk barefoot on them. -The bathrooms are in serious need of an upgrade including the sink's water pressure and proper height. -The furniture and appliances are WAY overdue for replacements. -The beds are ok but not great by any means. The thing that pained me the most however, is the pool because that is where we spent a good amount of time together as a family. The bottom of the pool needs repair as the cement is peeling and scrapes the heck out of your feet. And sitting at a table or on a lounge chair looking at the PVC pipe that they use for a waterfall instead of actually repairing the one nice feature that used to put a smile on my face. I mean really??? My family and I have decided it's time to move on and find a new favorite spot. Hopefully, we hear in the future that they've invested in it and maybe I'd consider going back. The staff is very nice but it's a slap in the face to pay so much money to a place that isn't willing to maintain it properly."
