Chalmette Monument
β ClosedThe Chalmette Monument, located at 1 Battlefield Road in Chalmette, Louisiana, is a historic tourist attraction commemorating the American victory at the Battle of New Orleans. The memorial obelisk, standing at one hundred feet high, was completed in 1908 and offers visitors a unique perspective of the battlefield and its surroundings, including the Mississippi River and the city of New Orleans. The monument had been closed for maintenance after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but was reopened to the public in 2013 for the bicentennial of the battle.
