Welcome to Wilson Prairie, a breathtaking 37-acre native prairie located at 10400 County Road G44X, Muscatine, Iowa. This remarkable site is believed to be a remnant native prairie, offering a glimpse into Iowa's rich natural heritage. The land was originally purchased by the Wilson family in 1922, who cherished its beauty and played a crucial role in its preservation. Historically grazed by cattle and hayed until recently, these practices helped maintain the prairie’s unique ecosystem by preventing woody encroachment, although some areas saw the spread of brome grass. In December 2019, Louisa County Conservation secured the future of Wilson Prairie with the help of a Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) grant and the generous support of the Tri-Rivers Conservation Foundation. This collaboration ensured the permanent protection of this precious piece of Iowa's natural history.

Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, located at 9981 Pacific Street in Prairie City, Iowa, is a peaceful park and tourist attraction dedicated to preserving and showcasing the native tallgrass prairie heritage of the region. The visitor center, open Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, offers educational exhibits, a short film, and indoor/outdoor eating areas. Visitors can explore the refuge's walking trails, bike trail, and auto tour loop to observe a variety of wildlife, including bison, elk, and grassland birds. The refuge also hosts scheduled programs, special events, and volunteer projects for those looking to get involved in conservation efforts.

Lake Anita State Park is a beautiful outdoor recreation destination located in Anita, Iowa. Constructed in the 1960s, this 1,062-acre park features a stunning 171-acre artificial lake that offers excellent fishing and boating opportunities. Visitors can enjoy over five miles of trails that wind through restored prairie and diverse habitats, perfect for walking or biking. The park also offers fishing jetties, boat ramps, and dock space for pontoon boats. Campers can choose from a variety of campsites near the lake, including electric, non-electric, and full hook-up sites. There are three modern showers and restrooms available, with one-fourth of the campsites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations can be made online for campsites and open shelters at Lake Anita State Park.
