Welcome to the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (NILEA), located at 705 East 4th Street, Hobart, Indiana. Established on September 15th, 1982, NILEA has a rich history of serving the law enforcement community in Northern Indiana. Originally founded as the Lake Suburban Public Safety Training Council, Inc., our organization was created to meet the legislative requirement for Indiana police officers to complete a minimum of sixteen hours of in-service training to maintain their certification. Over the years, NILEA has evolved and expanded, starting with four charter member agencies: Highland, Schererville, Crown Point, and St. John. Our membership has grown to include over sixty-four police departments across a twelve-county radius, reflecting our commitment to comprehensive law enforcement training.

As we look forward to 2024, we celebrate the progress made along the Lincoln Highway, including the establishment of five modern-day Control Stations in Merrillville, La Porte, South Bend, Ligonier, and Fort Wayne. These stations serve as informative guides, helping visitors navigate and appreciate the unique stops along the way. We've also replaced numerous road signs to keep the highway well-marked and accessible for everyone.
