The park is named after the endangered Indiana bat and is managed by the Town of Plainfield, which recently took over operations from Hendricks County Parks. The park was developed in 2010 under a lease arrangement with the Indianapolis International Airport and features amenities such as a park shelter, wildlife viewing platform, and fishing pier. The Town of Plainfield purchased the park land in 2018 as part of a larger acquisition from the airport.
