The Wellington A. Clark House
The Wellington A. Clark House, also known as The Old Homestead, is a historic home located at 227 South Court Street in Crown Point, Indiana. Built in 1847, this one-story vernacular Greek Revival style timber frame dwelling features a hall and parlor plan, with an L-shaped rear extension and clapboard siding. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001, the house holds a rich history as the residence of Wellington A. Clark, a prominent figure in the early development of the area. Wellington A. Clark, a native New Yorker, settled in Crown Point in the mid-19th century and built The Old Homestead with his wife, Mary C. Hackley. Over the years, Clark engaged in various commercial ventures, including farming, real estate, and operating the first cheese factory in Crown Point. He was also involved in fraternal organizations and the Presbyterian church, and played a key role in the founding of the Old Settlers and Historic Association.
