SICCM was created to facilitate the sharing of resources in higher education among member institutions to better serve the growing needs of the region. The SICCM serves a significant portion of the Lower Mississippi Delta Development region, covering 60% of the 25 counties served by five community colleges. The organization has a long history of providing specialized training and programs to address the unique challenges faced by the communities in this poverty-stricken area. Over the years, SICCM has administered over $69 million in grants and projects focused on areas such as distance learning, healthcare, economic development, research, and faculty development. With a strong commitment to meeting the needs of the region, SICCM institutions have proven to be innovative and successful in their efforts to improve the quality of life for residents in the Delta region. The consortium continues to play a vital role in supporting higher education and community development in Southern Illinois.
