The property features a prairie restoration, handicap accessible trails, rugged trails into the Nature Preserve, a picnic area, and a visitor center with restrooms. Tawny Oaks offers various workshops, educational walks, and bird watching events seasonally. As an Illinois Nature Preserve, dogs and other pets are not allowed at Tawny Oaks or on the trails due to the rare and unique ecological value of the area. The institution requires advanced online registration for many classes, programs, and events. Visitors can also join the Hundred Mile Hiker Club to receive special rewards for hiking on Peoria Park District trails.
