"moved in and had roaches blamed us made us pay for exterminator saying we brought them even though they were under our fridge. Next place we had sewage in basement and kept flooding. , didnt replace windows, mold in bathroom, no window in attic, crappy insulation wouldnt recommend at all. not to mention when we moved in the basement had dog crap and smelled soo bad. DO NOT RECCOMEND"

"I rented 2 places with them on Adams st. The upstairs apt had bugs and a hole in the bathroom floor. It took them 5 days to fix my door lock. It also smelled moldy. Also the windows had no screens. The blinds didn't work. When I moved out of that one. They refused to give me back the deposit claiming they had to get a cleaning crew. After I cleaned it. In the lease it said a crew was $100 not the whole deposit. Then I moved downstairs. They told me they'd work with me on rent and the deposit since they wanted me out of the upstairs one asap. One thing about moving they kept changing either mind if they were going to charge me or not for the last month lived upstairs. First it was if I was out by the 15th I wouldn't have to pay. Then they prorate. In the end I had to pay the full amount even though I didn't stay the whole month. When I got downstairs they made me pay another deposit. So about a month after I moved in downstairs. They posted a letter on the door for everyone to see about a eviction after they lied and said they'd work with me. So I had to go down to the office and setup a payment plan and remind them what they said to me. The downstairs apt also had bugs cracks in the ceiling and walls. The furnace broke just before the cold snap. Took 5 days to fix that. They sent a txt saying that they'll come and make to sure things were working. Never did. They don't remove snow or salt either. I slipped on the deck and cracked my head open. Then they started showing up with no notice or request. They'll even spy on you. Leaving your lights on and moving stuff not putting it back in the original spot. My pipes also froze on me. If you're 5 days late on rent they'll blow up your phone everyday letting you know how much your behind. When you tell them what day you plan to pay. In the end I don't recommend anyone renting from these people. I've never heard anything good about them. I only did cause I was desperate. And I regretted it. The maintenance people don't know what they're doing either. I had one showing up claiming he wanted to look at the thermostat and check the toilet to see if it was running. That apt didn't have a thermostat. Told him the toilet didn't run all the time. He didn't even look just took my word for it. No laundry on site as promised on the webpage. Also was told that they'd be working on the apt above me at 6am. Since I've moved out they've been charging me late fees. And I don't even live there anymore. Why not just the lump sum of what I owed since I broke the lease. I won't ever rent with them again. They wait a yr to add on a other 1000 for a broken lease. And another 2000 for so called damages. . Guess they want to try a make me pay for all those cracks in the ceiling and walls before I moved in. Good luck with that. I'll be taking them to court"

"This is by far the most neglected and dirty apartment in Macomb. I heard they are increasing the rent for next leases and I’m wondering what the increase is for exactly. There is no form of maintenance on site, roaches and mice make the building their headquarters and when after long delays in attending to work order request, they charge you for routine maintenance. There is no washing machine either in the buildings"

"Kept my deposit for longer than legally allowed 30 day limit. Did not give my deposit back until threatened to take legal action. Rude staff. I have close friends who have rented from Macomb Rentals and they have STOLEN PROPERTY FROM THEIR TENANTS when they were displaced but didn’t end the lease. (If you’re still on a lease landlords have no right to touch your property). The displacement was due to Macomb rentals ignoring complaints of smelling smoke every time they showered and an electrical fire to occurring due to this. Guess how they got their property back? They had to threaten to take legal action, then it was returned to them."

"I have never posted a negative review before, but as college students are signing leases for next fall, I want to share my experience and strongly encourage all who are researching housing options to never rent with Macomb Rentals. I rented a four bedroom house for the 2021-2022 school year, and there were many health and safety issues with the rental. When we first moved in, there was a large hole in the deck leading to the back door, which was not fixed until one of our friends fell through it. In the winter, there were several days we had no heat and no hot water. There was also a pileup of sewage in the basement, which required us to find alternative housing for five nights. The entire house smelled like sewage, and many of our items were contaminated. Although our utilities costs went up exponentially to cover the cost of power washing the basement and using space heaters to keep the pipes from freezing, our request for a small reduction in rent the following month was ignored. Macomb Rentals did not respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner, yet contacted us about house showings for prospective future tenants during times when our house was unlivable. Macomb Rentals was also misleading about the amount of time it would take to fix maintenance issues, which led to the inconvenience of continually needing to find alternative places to shower, and even alternative overnight housing, as issues persisted. When I communicated with Macomb Rentals about issues, they were very unkind and also took advantage of my naivety with this being my first rental. One of the employees threatened to harm my chances of getting future rentals from other companies if I informed the city of Macomb about the house maintenance issues. This is part of why I waited so long to post this review, but I have since moved to the city and have a wonderful relationship with my current landlord. There are several great places in Macomb to rent, as I know friends who have had great experiences with Aspen, Turnberry, Lexington/Concord, Smith & Royer, and Student Rentals. As you make your rental decisions, please consider Macomb Rentals as your last possible option, as I wish I knew the tremendous stress this rental experience would cause."
