Swan Falls Picnic Area
Swan Falls Picnic Area is a day-use park located at Swan Falls Road Dirt Extension in Murphy, Idaho, United States. This park features a reservable picnic shelter and is situated within the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area, next to the historic Swan Falls Dam powerhouse museum. The dam, built in 1901, was the first hydroelectric generating site on the Snake River, providing electricity to nearby mines. A new power plant was constructed in the mid-1990s, and the old plant now serves as a museum. Although the historic powerhouse museum is currently closed for renovations, it will reopen for self-guided tours on Saturdays from April 20 through Aug. 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can also explore interpretive signs in the park that detail the geologic and cultural history of the area. Equestrian parking is available below the dam, but overnight camping is not permitted.
