Keaīwa Heiau State Recreation Area is a 384-acre park located in Aiea, Hawaii, approximately 12 miles from Waikiki. The park features the historic Keaīwa Heiau, a medicinal temple where kahuna specialized in healing various illnesses and injuries. The park offers 10 campsites for tent camping, picnic areas with covered pavilions and barbeque grills, and the ‘Aiea Loop Trail, a 4.8-mile trail with beautiful views of Pearl Harbor and the Wai’anae Range. Dogs are not allowed in the park, but they can be leashed on the trail. The area is known for its lemon eucalyptus trees, Norfolk Island pine trees, and native koa and ohi’a trees. The name Keaīwa means mysterious or incomprehensible, reflecting the healing powers of the kahuna and the herbs used in healing.
