Na Pua O Kapiʻolani Hula Studio
Na Pua O Kapiʻolani Hula Studio is a traditional dance institution located at 31 Puamana Place in Lahaina, Hawaii. Led by Kumu Hula K. Holoaumoku Ralar and Alakaʻi Pualalea Cabaungan, the studio is dedicated to preserving and teaching the art of hula in the spirit of Maui's renowned Kumu Hula, Aunty Emma Farden Sharpe. Students of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds are welcomed to learn and share the beauty of hula. The studio's inclusive approach allows for intergenerational performances, with grandmothers and great grandmothers dancing alongside keiki, teens, and young mothers. Through the guidance of Aunty Kathy Ralar, students are taught choreography that combines traditional hula steps and hand motions with both ancient and modern Hawaiian songs. The studio's performance band, Mauna Eke, provides live music to complement the dancers' movements. Students have the opportunity to perform at various events on Maui and beyond, spreading the joy and aloha of hula to audiences worldwide. Na Pua O Kapiʻolani Hula Studio embodies the essence of hula, inviting all to join in the dance. E Hula Kakou! Let's all dance hula!
