Welcome to Kit Jones Historic Landmark, a cherished maritime treasure nestled in the heart of Darien, Georgia. This remarkable wood-hull vessel, built in 1939 on Sapelo Island, GA, stands as a testament to the rich coastal wood-boat building tradition and the vibrant history of Georgia's waterways. Designed by the esteemed yacht architects Sparkman & Stephens, Kit Jones is crafted from native heart pine and live oak, materials that echo the natural beauty of her birthplace. Named after Katharine Talbott Jones, Kit has served a diverse range of roles throughout her storied life, from a tugboat and ferry to a fireboat during World War II. Most notably, she played a pivotal role in coastal scientific research, supporting the work of renowned ecologists and oceanographers for decades. Her journey through time is a narrative of resilience and transformation, surviving hurricanes and near-dismantling, only to be lovingly restored and preserved by the Friends of Kit Jones, Inc.
