Pocket Loop Trailhead
The Pocket Loop Trailhead, located on Pocket Road in Chickamauga, Georgia, is a campground, lodging, and park facility best known for the Shirley Miller Wildflower Trail. This 0.9 mile trail features a boardwalk, waterfall, and nearly 50 varieties of wildflowers, making it a popular spot in March and April when the flowers are in bloom. Jay Clark's book "Wildflowers of Pigeon Mountain" offers extensive information about the wildflowers in the area, and copies can still be ordered on Amazon. For a more adventurous experience, visitors can explore the 9-mile Pocket Loop Trail, which breaks off from the Shirley Miller Wildflower Trail and features wildlife openings, a camping area, and the "High Point" on Pigeon Mountain with stunning winter vistas. To reach the trailhead, take GA Hwy 193 to the intersection of GA Hwy 341 and Hog Jowl Road, then travel south on Hog Jowl for about 2.8 miles before turning left onto Pocket Road. The road runs for 1.2 miles before reaching a parking area, though part of it is unpaved and may require crossing a shallow stream ford. Remember that a Go Outdoors Georgia Hunting, Fishing, or Lands Pass License is required to access this property.
