Florida Gulf Coast University Vester Marine and Environmental Science Research Field Station is a unique facility located in Bonita Springs, Florida. It serves as a key access point to Estero Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, making it an ideal base for research on Southwest Florida's coastal and watershed habitats. The station is utilized by FGCU faculty and students, as well as researchers from across the United States and 15 foreign nations. The field station, situated along Fish Trap Bay where the Imperial River meets Estero Bay, consists of three buildings on a historic spit of land. Originally a commercial fish house and later an old Florida-style resort, the site was transformed into a research facility thanks to a generous donation from Norm and Nancy Vester in 2007.
