Hollywood Sportatorium
The Hollywood Sportatorium, located at 17171 Pines Boulevard in Pembroke Pines, Florida, was a unique indoor arena that served as a hub for entertainment and events in South Florida. Built in 1969, the Sportatorium was initially designed to host a variety of events such as sports competitions, ice shows, auto shows, and concerts. Despite its lack of permanent seating, air conditioning, and an enclosed roof, the Sportatorium quickly became a popular concert venue, attracting big-name rock bands from the 1970s and 1980s. Although the arena never secured a permanent sports franchise, it did host the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the NASL for one indoor season in 1980-81. Additionally, the Sportatorium welcomed a preseason NBA matchup between the New Orleans Jazz and the Atlanta Hawks in 1977. Despite its struggles to attract sports teams, the Sportatorium thrived as a concert arena, offering a covered venue with ample seating for music enthusiasts.
