Welcome to the Dunbar-Jupiter Hammon Public Library, a cornerstone of the Fort Myers community since April 1974. Conveniently located at 3095 Blount Street, our library is a tribute to two pioneering figures in African American literature: Jupiter Hammon, the first published African American author, and Paul Laurence Dunbar, the first widely acclaimed African American poet in the United States. Our library is a vibrant hub of learning and culture, offering a wide range of resources and programs for all ages. We take pride in our dedicated collection of African American Literature, named in honor of Mary Rice, a cherished library advocate and longtime employee. This special collection celebrates the rich heritage and contributions of African American writers and thinkers.
