Nocatee Migrant Head Start
Nocatee Migrant Head Start, located at 2590 County Road 760A in Arcadia, Florida, is a part of the RCMA organization that offers free childcare and VPK programs for children ages 6 weeks to five years old. The institution provides dual language early childhood education in a safe and nurturing environment, going beyond traditional daycare services. In addition to childcare, RCMA operates two free K-8 charter schools with plans for three more in the future. RCMA first began in DeSoto County in 1975 with one center, and has since expanded to include three Child Development Centers in Arcadia and Nocatee. Over 198 children are served at these centers, with children with disabilities being mainstreamed into age-appropriate classrooms. Families are encouraged to actively participate in decision making at the centers, and ongoing training is provided for teachers and family support staff.
