Built in 1858 by the Pensacola and Georgia Railroad, it is the oldest brick depot in Florida and one of only three Civil War railroad depots still in existence. The station played a significant role in the transportation of goods and injured Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Saved from demolition by the Jefferson County Historical Association, the station is now preserved and maintained by the Gulf Wind Chapter. The depot has been renovated to include a museum displaying various railroad artifacts and is used for community meetings.
