Ustler Hall
Ustler Hall, located in Gainesville, Florida, is a historic building on the campus of the University of Florida. Originally known as the Women’s Gymnasium, it was designed in the Collegiate Gothic style by William Augustus Edwards and opened in 1919. The building served as a hub for indoor sports teams until the Florida Gymnasium was built in the late 1940s. In 2006, the building was completely transformed and became the new home of the university's Women’s Studies Department. Today, Ustler Hall houses the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies as well as the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies Research. It is the only freestanding building in the United States dedicated solely to Women’s Studies and was the first building on the UF campus named to honor a woman. The restoration of Ustler Hall was recognized as a “Project of Regional Impact” by the Florida Heritage Foundation. With modern classrooms, offices, and a circular courtyard, Ustler Hall continues to be a vital part of the university's academic community.
