This 50-acre wetland area was created from previous wastewater utility property and is free and open to the public. Visitors can explore the three-quarter mile boardwalk that crosses over open water pond areas and islands with shrubs and snags, providing a perfect habitat for nesting and roosting birds. The wetlands are part of the Great Florida Birding Trail, offering opportunities to observe over 178 bird species along with turtles, alligators, rabbits, fish, frogs, and raccoons. The Southern Region Water Reclamation Facility pumps treated wastewater into the wetlands, acting as a percolation pond to return fresh water back into the water table.
