"A friend of mine and I took a tour about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Betty Lou was so very entertaining in showing and explaining the way things were done way back when. I live in a house built in 1740 and it was so interesting how Betty Lou presented the room where the food was prepared: the stone used to crush spices, the method used to preserve eggs for the winter season once the chickens stopped laying, drying herbs, the door to the 3rd level in one of the bedrooms would oftentimes wake up one who was sleeping, so a "secret door" to the 3rd level was installed to provide quiet, and a host of other things were shown and/or demonstrated. The artwork was amazing. The "Yankee ingenuity" was truly amazing in how things were accomplished. Betty Lou did a fantastic job. Would highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in America's past."
"Ive never been inside but the property is big and well kept. Also for all you pokemon go players there is two gyms at said location"
"Wow, what a great old house. The Cheneys were a founding family of Manchester and have so much history there. There are many historical properties that they built. Love learning about them."
"Great piece of history. Enjoyed the visit and tour as part of a field trip. The guide did a great job interacting with the children and giving them a tour of the house. They were also treated to a lesson in the schoolhouse that is also on property."
"On the second Sunday of each month this living history of life in the early 1800's is alive with Historical activities, hands-on experience, visual displays and demonstrations, showing life without electricity and computers. Today, February 11, 2018, the Fredrick Douglas speech from 1852 was reenacted to celebrate his 200'th birthday this month and commemorate the 6men of color from Manchester who were in the 29'th regiment in the civil war that were the first to attack Richmond, Va. To end the war. In the nice weather there are outside activities as well as inside tours. On the grounds is also located the one room, Keene School House, complete with a 2 hole outhouse in the back. So many things are going on at the Cheney Homestead each month, it is best to check the website or Facebook page for the Manchester Historical Society for up to date information."
