Originally founded in 1996, the rink was purchased by the Koos family and opened in 2006 on a 4-acre property with stunning views of the Colorado National Monument. After being closed and reopened multiple times, the rink sadly closed in March 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions. However, in October 2021, a private owner reopened the facility to the public after extensive remodeling. The new owners and management team are dedicated to providing a source of family-friendly entertainment and accommodating the growing interest in ice sports in the Grand Valley community. River City Sportplex is home to various programs such as the River Hawk Youth Hockey program, River Hawk Curling Club, and Colorado Mesa University Men’s Hockey team.
