Kindergarten Rock (Gray Rock)
Kindergarten Rock (Gray Rock) is a popular climbing destination located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States. This institution is part of the Garden of the Gods park and offers a variety of climbing routes on its solid, featured sandstone faces. The West side of Kindergarten Rock is closed to rock climbing except for the last 15 feet to the south, with exceptions like Family Values being open. The South face is still open except for the seasonal closure of the Northeast face. The East face of Kindergarten Rock is composed of solid, almost glassy sandstone, offering challenging climbs such as New Era (5.7) and Diesel and Dust (5.11). The institution is temporarily closed for restoration work near the south end from March 18, 2024, through the end of April 2024, with access to climbing routes on the south face of Grey Rock being restricted. The park staff strictly prohibits the use of chalk or chalk substitutes in the park due to visual impact, and climbers are encouraged to respect these rules to preserve the natural beauty of the area.
