"I have been a patient at this facility for 10 years. I thought they understood my metabolic issue, but once my insurance refused to pay for the medication I found out just what they thought of me. I went off the medication for 5 weeks and had such severe sugar swings from 196 to 80 in 15 min which left me feeling like I was passing out. The prior medication that I was taking was to regulate this. I tried to keep them informed of what was happening via the patient portal, and then found that they removed themselves from the portal so I could no longer contact them that way. So, I contacted my primary care Dr. and kept him informed of what was happening. I had an appointment just 2 days ago to discuss with Dr long how to get this controlled I thought if they could see proof of what was occurring they would help with this. I brought in my blood tester to show how fast the swings were and Dr. Long looked at it but seamed disinterested. She told me this was normal and literally said that I was just getting older. Which means we have no intention of helping you. After this appointment with Dr Long I set up an appointment with the internal medicine Dr my primary care Dr. He explained that these types of blood sugar swings are not normal and had spent time to figure out what metabolic issue I have and how we can treat it. He also explained that an A1C test is not going to show what my actual issue is since my average sugar levels is going to come out just fine it can not measure the significant swings. I thought Dr longs office was a specialist office that treated unusual metabolic disorders, but truly if don't look the part of a diabetic type 1 or 2 they act like you are just a weight loss patient looking for an easy way out. That's bull s!@#$. I work out 4 times a week and eat well and because of these sugar swings have a tendency to gain lots of weight in a short periods of time. I am not a weight loss patient I am a metabolic patient and deserved to be treated as such and taken seriously. I can understand why Dr. Long does not take patients like me seriously because she does not have these issues herself and probably just can not identify or maybe predisposed to thinking that all patients with high BMI are just lazy or if you have a low BMI and look good you must feel good on the inside. There are many studies out there that many doctors are still hung up on physical appearance and don't really listen to their patients or think their patients are lying to them. This is one of those offices."
