"Really poor cleanliness. Really bad policies. If you aren't willing to run your credit and you have an emergency, they will absolutely withhold treatment until payment is received. But if you wanna take a hit to your credit, they will start treatment immediately, even if you're denied!? My first encounter with them was right at the start of covid, so I was less concerned with their policy, and I was a bit distracted, losing my best friend to care about cleanliness. Their EOL treatment turned out to be pretty nice. Not once did I question or complain about their exuberant pricing, but that didn't stop them from pushing me to take my pup to another, cheaper clinic... I won't be returning. These pics were in a critical care area where animals are just coming out of surgery... Not to mention they sent my pup home after GI surgery with crusty puke around her face and neck and feces over her hind quarters... just what I'm sure my fresh outta surgery pup wanted, a full on sponge bath..."
"The people at this hospital are very kind. They took my service dog back immediately and took care of her. She is the most important being in my life and they treated her as such. Also, I was having trouble covering the cost and they were so very generous as to allow me to not worry about it. Absolutely, genuinely, the best most wonderful people."
"They had a HUGE negative impact on our lives and every single day our family is affected. Our cat has cerebellar hypoplasia and is epileptic. We decided to take her to a WRAH neurologist after ours retired. The neurologist at Wheat Ridge recommended that we ween our cat off her seizure meds since it had been over a year since she had a seizure. We followed the instructions and five days after we finished weening her off her meds, she had seizures and we took her to the ER. They started a new medication and sent our cat home that night. She kept having seizures and we brought her back. She ended up in their ICU, we were told she had become blind and had probably a 50% chance of survival. She was in and out of the ER throughout the week and there were new obstacles to face at home. The neurologist who had recommended taking her off the meds was overseeing her case during the experience but didn’t call us to talk about our cat. She didn’t come into a room when we were there, even though the staff were sometimes under the assumption that she was going to speak with us. She didn’t email us. She didn’t communicate with us at all until the next week because our cat was still having seizure issues. And when she finally did talk to us there was some gaslighting. Our cat has tried to adapt the best she can, but her quality of life has significantly decreased since her hospitalization and each day is a challenge for her and my wife and I. During her hospitalization and afterwards the neurologist didn’t acknowledge her initial recommendation to ween our cat off of her seizure medicine and it felt like she was trying to avoid any blame and/or possible legal action. And the way she treated us just felt wrong. Our cat used to play with her siblings and was living her best life. Now she sleeps most of the time and cries when anyone approaches her because she can’t see what’s going on. Her walking and balance got worse with losing her eyesight. She falls over constantly and can’t use the bathroom by herself anymore. Her new neurologist (AESC, we love them) recommended a wheelchair for her. Her quality of life changed drastically and so did ours. It’s been a devastating 18 months. Also, it’s worth noting that I had asked to speak with a practice manager after a few incidents that were unprofessional. They never bothered to reach out. I have ~10 years of experience working in the veterinary industry and I have never observed such poor behavior in a situation like this."
"While you never want to have to bring your pet to the ER, it’s always good to know they will be loved and cared for at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital. My cat ended up having a very rare neurological disease that unfortunately took him from us but we would have never know the cause without this hospital. The team did everything they could to care for my cat and they were very honest with me about the prognosis (which is always very difficult when things don’t look good). Today, I received a card from the hospital with condolences from the team and knowing that our cat was so loved by everyone in such a short time was very comforting. Thank you for taking such good care of my orange boy and doing everything you could for him."
"My sweet sheltie puppy Lily was unfortunately hit by a car in September. I called and spoke to Portia who was extremely empathetic and professional on the phone, she said she’d let the ER team know Lily was on the way. When I arrived she was immediately triaged by Amanda, John, Leishay, Dr McKibben and Dr Cicierchi. They were ready for her and stabilized her extremely quickly and kept me updated throughout the whole process. I was understandably a wreck and they all were kind and empathetic and cared so much about me and Lily. She ended up being hospitalized for 4 days in the ICU and was under the care of Dr Meola, Dr Holt, and Dr Hickox. Their communication with me was spectacular- I got multiple updates a day on her progress and was able to visit Lily multiple times. Lily received such wonderful care from her doctors and technicians and assistants in the ICU. I’d like to thank Lexe, Alissa, Megan, Skylar, Amanda, Sarah, Marin, Lindsey, Brittany, Mary, Lexi, Nayeli, and Jenna for all the wonderful care you all gave Lily while she was hospitalized. They treated Lily with the love and compassion like she was their own dog. I am so grateful for the care Lily and I received and am so happy I brought her to Wheat Ridge. Lily is thankfully on the mend and is almost back to her normal self. And I 1000% attribute it to how quickly she was triaged and how well she was cared for by the Doctors and staff at Wheat Ridge."
