At the heart of the area is the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness, featuring a stunning double canyon carved by the Gunnison River, with world-class trout fishing, challenging whitewater boating, and ancient geologic formations. Managed by the BLM Uncompahgre Field Office, this 62,844-acre NCA was designated in 1999 and expanded in 2003. Visitors can explore this unique and beautiful natural area, rich in history and outdoor recreational opportunities.
