Hwa Rang Kwan After School Program, located at 564 El Camino Real in Belmont, California, is a health institution that offers a unique study of Taekwondo philosophy for individuals of all ages. Established by 9th Dan GrandMaster D.K. Shin in 1971, it is the oldest running martial arts school on the West Coast, with roots dating back to the 5th century. The institution is named after the Hwa Rang - elite warriors from the Silla kingdom in Korea who were known for their superb fighting techniques, courage, and mental strength. The Hwa Rang were also enlightened individuals, trained in Confucianism and Buddhism, and fought with dignity and nobility. Hwa Rang Kwan After School Program follows the Hwa Rang Creed, based on the original 5 ancient principles of the Hwa Rang Warriors.
